Kiddush Cup
Poland
Jordie B brought this kiddush cup for the 2018 Moriah School Heritage Fair. This kiddush cup has special meaning because it was a gift given from Jordie’s great-great grandparents to Jordie’s grandfather Leo (z’l) when he was born in New York. It was the last time that his family had contact with the family in Poland. They all died in the Holocaust. This cup is now 86 years old and belongs to Jordie’s cousin in Israel who is named for his great-great grandfather. It is extra special to Jordie as her grandfather Leo died earlier this year, and this cup reminds her of him.

Soup Spoon
Lithuania
Talia P brought this soup spoon for the 2018 Moriah School Heritage Fair.Talia received this object from her grandmother, Dorothy P. The soup spoon was originally from Talia’s great - great grandparents, Ha Rav Elchanon Dov and Chana Tzira Napolienne. Ha Rav Elchanon Dov and Chana Tzira Napolienne were living in Pakruajis, Lithuania. They had received it as a wedding gift, they got it in the year they got married, sometime between 1898-1900. The spoon was one of a set of seven divided between Talia’s great granny and her sisters. The family were exiled to Siberia during World War I. They took some portable assets with them like the soup spoon. In 1928 they were allowed to return to Lithuania. However, there were terrible pogroms taking place, and some of the family was killed by these cruel, anti-semitic people. Talia’s great grandmother left her family behind and came to South Africa by ship. The P family has kept this object because it’s one of the few objects from when their family was in Lithuania over 100 years ago.
