Zachary W. brought this album for the 2017 Moriah School Heritage Fair. The album belonged to Zachary W.’s paternal grandfather Greg . Zachary W.’s grandfather, Greg W., received it after he completed the basic training for the Vietnam War in Fort Gordon, Georgia
and Fort Dix, New Jersey. Greg W. was drafted into the army in 1962 at the age of seventeen. Greg was in the army
during the era when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.
The album shows pictures of Zachary W.'s grandfather and other people that completed the training at the same time. It is significant to Zachary W.’s family because is shows that Zachary W.’s grandfather served for this country.

Rebecca S brought this medal for the 2017 Moriah School Heritage Fair. Rebecca S’s great grandfather, Sol S, received this medal after four years in the U.S. Army. This medal was for
serving in the U.S. Army with good conduct. Sol S came to America
in 1929 from Poland when he was 16 years old. He was working full-time
during the day and went to high school and college at night. After that,
Sol S entered the U.S. army and became a sergeant. While he was in the army, he got married to Roslyn. After he served in the army for 4 years, he received this medal for good conduct. Rebecca’s family does not use this object today but it is still very important and special to them. It is a symbol of Rebecca’s great grandfather’s accomplishments after coming to America from a small town in Poland.

Parachute Bomb

Anna H brought this bomb parachute for the 2017 Moriah School Heritage Fair. This bomb parachute was made in Anna
H’s maternal great grandfather's bathing suit factory. The bomb parachute was made for World War II. The army was looking for the materials needed to make parachutes, and for manufacturers that were able to make it for them in order for the planes to come back safely. Anna H’s great grandfather had the materials at
the factory, so he was able to help make some of them. Luckily, one
of the soldiers gave it back to Anna H’s great grandfather, and now the S family has it.

Army Jacket

Ethan A brought this army jacket for the 2017 Moriah School Heritage Fair. This army jacket that Ethan A brought was worn by his paternal grandfather. Howard A fought in the Korean War in 1950. He got the jacket as part of his uniform.This object means a lot to the A family because he passed away many years ago. Ethan’s father was a young man when he died, so he cherishes everything he has from his father. Ethan never met his grandfather, but has learned that he was a great man.

Army Jacket

Emily L. brought this United States army jacket for the 2017 Moriah School Heritage Fair. Emily L’s paternal
grandfather, Michael L served in the American army from 1959-1965. He received his jacket and uniform in Fort
Dix, New Jersey. This uniform was worn by Michael L for the six years he served in the National guard. The message from Michael L’s jacket is that serving your country is important and something that people will always remember.

Charlie F. brought this American War Ration book for the 2017 Moriah School Heritage Fair. Avi Hochstein, Charlie F.’s maternal grandfather, lived in Brooklyn in 1943 during the time of World War II. There was a food shortage because of the war, and there wasn’t enough milk. As a result, the
government gave out war ration books.The war ration books allowed you to receive free canned milk from the supermarket. This ration book is valuable to Charlie because it teaches him about his family heritage.

Stephan N brought this medal to the Moriah School 2017 Heritage Fair. This award that Stephan N has is from his
maternal great grandfather, Beno Strauss. He got this award for
good conduct in the American army. After Stephan N's great grandfather traveled from Germany to America, he
volunteered to be in the American army. On top of that, he earned this award. This teaches Stephan N that if you
work hard and behave well, you can get rewarded.
This medal is cherished by the N and Strauss families.
