Caleb O. brought this book for the 2016 Moriah School Heritage Fair. This book is an important object to Caleb O. & his extended family as it tells their history. It tells the incredible story of the O family surviving through the Holocaust and their experiences. It all started fifteen years ago when the next generation of the O decided to document the story. The family asked the only living family member of that
time period, the one who survived the Holocaust to document her story.
Eventually all the information was compiled into one long book. This book is very significant to the O family as it describes the many hardships of the family during the Holocaust as well as the triumphs afterward.
This book will always be a crucial part of the O family.

Rachel A brought the passenger list for the 2016 Moriah School Heritage Fair. This passenger list have a special story. These objects once belonged to Felix A, the maternal great-grandfather of Rachel A. This passenger list contains the names of all of the passengers on the boat, Aquitania, which left from Cherbourg, France to New York. Felix Altman was born in 1899 in Romania. He sailed to America on July 23, 1927, on the British ship,
Aquitania, which left Europe from Southampton, England and stopped
in Cherbourg, France where he embarked. He then returned to Romania, married Rachel’s maternal great grandmother, Frima, and returned to New York. This passenger list is not used today, but the passport is an important historical record of how Rachel A's family came to the United States.
Rachel A and her family will cherish this object for many years to come.

Sophie M brought this passport for the 2016 Moriah School Heritige Fair. This passport once belonged to Ester Klughaupt, the paternal grandmother of Sophie M. This passport has a very interesting story. Before World War ll, Ester traveled from Poland to America. She then became a citizen of the United States and registered for a passport in 1932. After this, she traveled back to Poland and and visited Germany. It is unknown as to why Ester decided to return to Poland, but many of her relatives think it was to visit her family members still living there.
Sophie and her family will cherish this passport for years to come.

Zachary B brought a passport and Aliyah Certificate for the Moriah School Heritage Fair.This passport and Aliyah Certificate
have a special story. This Aliyah Certificate belonged to Zachary B’s great grandfather Yechiel Shalit. The passport belonged to Zachary B’s great-great grandfather Yechie Sayani . Each received the item they got from the government. It is significant to Zachary B’s family because it shows where they originated from. Both are so old that the name of the country and control have changed.
Zachary’s objects are not used today because they are an old passport and Aliyah certificate. It shows that Zachary’s family has roots from Israel from over a century ago.
Zachary and his family will cherish these objects for many years to come.

Jonah S brought this ship manifest to the 2016 Moriah School Heritage Fair.This ship manifest has an interesting story. This ship manifest from Ellis Island, once belonged to Jonah S maternal great grandmother, great uncle, and great aunt.The only reason that they were able to be on the ship is because they were sponsored by their father, Jonah S, great-great grandfather. It is important to Jonah S family because it shows how lucky they were that at least some of their family left Europe before the Holocaust and came to America. Unfortunately, most of their siblings and their mother did not make it out of Poland. This item shows Jonah S roots. They were lucky to get this ship manifest dated on October 18th, 1930, because that symbolized the start of their new life in America.

Jake S brought these books for the 2016 Moriah School Heritage Fair. These books have a very interesting story. They were written by Eliyahu Kanovsky, the maternal great grandfather of Jacob S. The books were written in Israel in the 1970’s by Jacob S’s great grandfather. The books are about the economies of Syria and Jordan.
They are significant as they are the books that his great grandfather wrote and his family likes to remember how smart he was.

Jonah L brought this book for the 2016 Moriah School Heritage Fair. This book has a special story. This once belonged to Alan L, the paternal grandfather of Jonah L. This book was given to Alan L in the 1970’s when it was published and passed down to Robert L. This book talks about Jonah’s grandfather's family living in the forests in the Soviet Union during and after the Holocaust. The book has a family tree and pictures of Jonah L family. The book also has a glossary that tells you the definition of the Yiddish word. This book was published in the United States circa 1960. This book is important to the L family because it talks about how the L family never stopped being Jewish and still have uphold the Jewish and Yiddish culture.

Aiden P brought this book of letters for the 2016 Moriah School Heritage Fair. This journal once belonged to Jozseph Czukor, The paternal great-great grandfather of Aiden P. This journal is letters telling his wife what happened. This was a journal that was sent to Jozseph’s wife. Right when Jozseph got out of the camp, he died because he was too sick. Jozseph’s close friend sent it to his wife. This journal has an impact on all of Aiden’s cousins and family.
It shows how hard life was in labour camp in Hungary.
