Holidays
The objects in this gallery are used to celebrate the Jewish Holidays. The experience is brought to life through these objects. A few examples of artifacts that you will find in this gallery are Seder plates, Hannukiahs, and Dreidels. Using these particular objects brings families together, while also connecting them to the Jews that have used these same objects throughout the generations.
French Haggadah paper
France
Brother Erner
This is the only thing my grandmother has from her childhood. It's after she finished hiding from Hitler, and it's some some sort of congratulations paper from school. The paper says that she is very well behaved and should stay that way.
It shows how mature she was, and it's the last thing she has left from her early life. It's basically the object that really shows how she acted as a child, because there's nothing else that proves her great behavior. It makes me feel closer to her because it is like showing she was once a kid like me.
Kiddush cup
Israel
Eric W. (my dad)
This kiddush cup was given to dad the day that he got Bar Mitzvah. My parents also drank from it at their wedding.
This Kiddish cup is special to my family because it brings up pleasant memories of my dads Bar Mitzvah and of my grandparents. It was also a extremely memorable moment and a milestone in my dad's life.
Seder Plate
Israel
Grandparents
It has been passed down through my family and we use it at Passover. It has been in my family for a very long time.
It is our seder plate that we use on Passover. It has been in our family for years. I want to pass it down through more generations. It will be a tradition.
Dreidel
Israel
My mother
My grammy had a dreidel collection and when she passed away my papa gave the dreidel to my mom because she also had a collection.
When I hold the dreidel it makes me feel a connection between my grandma and me because she also held it and used it.
Family Hanukkiah
Poland
Mother- Joli
This Hannukkiah was made in Poland in the early 1900's. It was made to model the ones made in Sicily in the 1400's. It was brought to Israel and was bought then by my grandfather. She gave it to my mother and it is our current family Hanukkiah.
It symbolizes my family's Jewish heritage. It is important to me because it shows my family tradition.
Hannukiah
Germany
Grandma
It is a Hannukiah that we still use once in a while on Hannukah. This Hannukiah has been passed down after my great grandpa died. He used this Hannukiah during World War 2. There is also a picture here of my family.
It gives us a connection to the past when my great- grandpa was alive.
