Holiday Artifacts
As a Jewish people, we have many traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation. In this gallery you will see artifacts that are important to us and help tell how we celebrate a particular holiday.
Horseradish Server
Israel
Aunt Jenn
My artifact is a special horseradish server that belonged to my great grandmother, Pearl P. It is over 50 years old. My great grandparents got this when they visited Israel many years ago. I learned by speaking to my Aunt Jenn that my great grandparents made Passover for the entire family each year. My great grandmother would make horseradish from scratch and would use this to serve it. When Pearl passed away, my Aunt Jenn inherited it. And now she is saving it for me
The significance of my artifact to Jewish heritage is that it is an example of how important being Jewish was to my great grandmother, and especially celebrating Passover, that she bought this very special server and made her own horseradish every year. And each Passover when we use this server we remember her and all that she did.
