Siddur
Israel
Stacy H
My artifact is a silver siddur with inlaid turquoise and silver filigree. It shows the ten commandments and the crown of the torah surrounded by four big medallions and twelve smaller medallions depicting scenes from Jerusalem and the twelve tribes. On the back cover the medallions depict the twelve tribes as well as the cities of Akko, Tiberias, Sfat, and Meiron.
The artifact means a lot to our family because my grandfather passed it down from one generation to another generation.
Prayer book
Brooklyn, NY
Susan B
This prayer book was used by Great-great-grandfather Isaac Beck in the 1900s. He wrote down the births, deaths, weddings, and important dates from all his family since the 1880s up to date. His grand- daughter Susan Cotton B continued writing in dates and is still doing it now. After her, she might give it to her sons Steven, Alan, or Mark, so they could write in it, too. It has a record of my grandma’s family and it also says when they come from Austria.
It was used by my great–great-grandfather every day especially since he was married.

My great-great-grandpa, Abraham Goldstein was a cantor on the Lower East Side of New York City. He had been born in Kiev, Russia in about 1850 – 1860.
It has been passed down in my family for four generations.
Book of Psalms
Jerusalem
Ruth G
This Book of Psalms was made in the early 20th Century. The covers were carved in olive wood by Jews living in Palestine. We think they were raising money to purchase land in what is now Israel.
It came to the USA via Hungary and was passed down the generations to my grandfather.
