Personal Momentos
The following gallery is composed of items that were meaningful to a students’
relative, and was then passed down through the family. Items may be quite varied.
Ceramic Rabbi
Brooklyn
My artifact is a ceramic rabbi. It is ceramic and it looks like a rabbi reading prayers. It is used for decoration inside of my grandmother’s house. The rabbi was given to my grandmother from her husband. My grandfather got it from a store in Brooklyn.
It is special to my family because my grandfather gave it to my grandmother before he died and she loves it very much.
Picture Frame
Florida
My artifact symbolizes the past and the present. The first picture is of my grandparents when they first met in Florida. In the second picture, my grandparents are on a cruise in Florida, from not too long ago. If you look on the back of each of the frame, you can see the exact dates of when the pictures were taken.
This may not be a very old artifact, but it’s very special to me.
Pearl Pendent
Unknown
My artifact is a gold and pearl pendent that has been passed down through the women in my family. My artifact was worn in every Bat Mitzvah since my great, great grandmother. My pendent came from my great, great grandma Rose, whom I am named for (middle name).
This is very important to me because every girl on my mom’s side of the family has cherished this pendent, and I will too. I think it is beautiful and I can’t wait until I can wear it at my Bat Mitzvah.
Tea Maker
Unknown
My artifact is an antique tea pot. It came from my Bubba, Anna London, my great, great grandmother. It is used to make tea.
However, to make tea you need to have a tea pot because it got heated from a stove.
Vase
Europe
My artifact is a white vase. It is small and can hold flowers. My artifact came from Europe and was bought by my great grandmother Florence Ginsberg. My great grandmother is still living today. The vase is glass, white and has pretty designs on it.
It is special because my great grandmother gave it to my mother. My great grandmother Florence is very special to my mother.
Teacup
Germany
My artifact is a teacup. It is made of china and has gold trimmings, a curly handle, and gray-shaded roses on the inner rim. On the base it says the brand (hutschenreuther hohenberg) which is a German name. The company was in business from 1814-1914. It is also light weight. There are more pieces in the set but I only brought this one to Hebrew School. My artifact is used by my family to drink tea at a special occasion. When my great-grandparents emigrated from Germany and they brought their most prized possessions. This cup was part of a tea set that was made in Bavaria Germany.
It was very precious to my great-grand-parents. So, they brought it with them to America.
