Artifacts from War
The following gallery is a compilation of items related to war and past family members\' service.
WWII Commemoration
Europe
My artifact is a World War Two commemoration piece to my grandfather because of his tour of duty in the military. It is a wooden frame with his medals and achievements while he was in the military.
Our artifact hangs in my grandparents' family room so they can look back on it and remember all of my grandfather’s military achievements. My parents made the frame and they just put all his medals and certificates in it. It is really special because we honor his service in the military, and not a lot of World War two veterans are around anymore so he is a special one!
Military Uniform
Japan/Korea
This is the military uniform my grandfather, Bernard B. wore when he served in the United States Army from 1946 to 1948. He was a sergeant and served in Japan and Korea in the occupation force. In Japan, his unit was quartered in the former Japanese barracks on the Island of Honshu, about 100 miles from Tokyo.
After returning to the United States, he attended college on the GI Bill and in 1952, he was commissioned as an officer with the United States Air Force.
