Memorabilia of the USA involvement in both World Wars.
305th Bombardment Group (H)
USA
Bernard L
This book commemorates the missions of the 305th Bombardment Group and the men who risked their lives flying bombing missions over France, Germany and Belgium during WW 11.
The insignia on the cover is a flying hand dropping bombs on the Nazis.
My grandpa\'s name is in the book. It is a reminder of how my grandpa risked his life to defend our freedom and way of life.
My grandpa was the ball turret gunner. This means he sat in a small plastic bubble, which was on the bottom of the plane, and his job was to shoot at approaching enemy planes. He brought shrapnel home from the war. These were fragments of bullets which just missed killing him and ended up in the ball turret. Another story my grandpa used to tell us was that since he was sitting in a plastic bubble, when he looked down it appeared that he was floating in air, which made him very nauseous. Therefore he would spend most of the mission throwing up.
WWll Dog Tags
USA
Irwin G
My grandpa, Irwin G, was a Captain in the US Army in WW2.
He helped put an end to WW2. He helped Jews become free in Europe. These tags are important because they are a symbol of the people who helped assure the survival of the Jewish people.
WWl Bugle
USA
John Roglieri
This bugle was made and used during WWI. My grandfather got it from his friend, Jim West who got it from his grandfather who was a WWI bugler.
Bugle calls are musicals signals that announced scheduled and unscheduled events in the army e.g. Reveille (getting up in the morning) or Taps (the last call of the day). The loud noise of a bugle could also be heard to give commands in the noise and confusion of battle.
My family loves this artifact because it is pretty cool. It has a great sound and makes a good decoration.
