Mortar and Pestle
Latvia
Granmother
This was my grandmother\'s mortar and pestle from Russia in the 19th century. It was brought here with them.
This was a common household item. I remember it was used to crush \'mohn\' (poppyseed) for Hamantaschen.
Bowl and Chopper
Latvia
My grandmother used this bowl and chopper to make gefilte fish.
Gefilte fish is a traditional food eaten on Shabbat and holidays.
Clay Pitcher Handle
Israel
Daniel M and Kim J
My Mom and Dad brought this back from Israel from Kibbutz Sedot Yam. My parents found this at the bottom of a cliff, near an old Roman town called Caesarea. This handle could be thousands and thousands of years old.
This represents our connection to the Land of Israel. It has been in my family since before I was born.
Glass Paper Weight

Great Grandmother and Mother
My great grandmother used to collect glass paper weights. Then my mother liked the idea.
To get it started, my great grandmother gave my mom some to start and this is an example of one.
