Hup 2,3,4 Military Memories
By Jani G. and Brenda S.
Wars are caused when states or nations disagree. Sometimes men volunteered to serve in the military and sometimes there was a draft. A draft is when people are commanded to serve in the military. When a country was involved in a war, sometimes the government went to people\\\'s houses to get men over a certain age to fight in the war. In this gallery you will see an army jacket, dog tags, an army hat and a medal. The owners of these artifacts were courageous soldiers who served in the army.
Dog Tag
United States
My mother, Stephanie J
My great grandfather, Michael M. received these dog tags when he was going into World War II. He had to wear it inside his jacket so that people would know who he was in case he died during battle. He didn\'t die in the war. However, when he did pass, he gave it to my grandmother, Helaine S., and she gave it to my mother, Stephanie J.
It told people who my grandfather was during a time when people could not admit to being Jews. The dog tag has an \"H\" on it which stands for Hebrew. It also did display his name - Michael M. He was proud to wear it.
Army Hat
USA
Howard N.
This hat belonged to my grandfather, Howard N. He was a sergeant and fought the Korean War. He was in Korea when the truce was signed. The army hat is very important to my family and me. It is something to remember forever, because my grandpa is very old and when he passes on, it will be something to hold on to forever.
Even though my grandfather is a Jew he still fought for the American army in the Korean War. He still prayed when he could and became a dentist after the war.
Medal From The Army
America
Ezy S.
The medal belonged to my great grandpa, Ezy S. when he was in the American army. The medal has English on one side that says Tel Nof A.F.B on the top and on the bottom it says, \"With Compliments.\" The significance of this medal is that my grandpa got it for good conduct. His job in the army was coding and decoding messages. The other side has Hebrew letters and there is a symbol on both sides. The coin also has a velvet black case with cushion inside of it.
This medal is significant to my Jewish heritage. It shows that a long time ago, when there weren\'t so many Jews in America, my great grandpa was still involved in helping the country by serving in the American army during World War II.
Army Jacket
America
Fred A.
The significance of the artifact is that without my Grandfather, Fred A, and his courage to fight in the 2nd World War, I might not be alive. I am proud to be the grandson of this man. Everybody should aspire to be like him.
Its significance is that Judaism may not be observed if it wasn\'t for him. Nazi Germany could have spread to all of the world, and if that happened all Jewish people may have been destroyed.
