Art Work
We have representative art work from around the world, from Israel, to Morocco, to Canada and the U.S. The art varies from paintings which were purchased to a hand made dagger holder which was made by a family artisan.
Moroccan Dagger Holder
Rabat, Morocco
Lisa (grandmother)
This Moroccan dagger holder is the only item left that my great-grandfather made. We consider it a family heirloom because when my great-grandfather, my great-grandmother and their 11 kids, including my grandmother Lisa, immigrated from Morocco to Israel this is one of the few items they were able to take.
My great-grandfather, Mimun, was an artist. He made jewelry, as well as other items using metals. He was a blacksmith. This is a Moroccan dagger holder that he worked on until right before his death. He would make items such as these and sell them. He had his own shop and was considered a master artist. He was a well known and a respected craftsman within the Jewish community in Morocco.
Chagall Stained Glass Windows
Israel
My Mom
My grandparents went to Israel in 1964 on a trip and saw the stained glass windows by the artist Marc Chagall. They thought they were beautiful. They bought this replica of the windows and brought it home to the family. It is more than 40 years old.
The twelve windows represent the twelve sons of Jacob: Reuben, Simeon, Levy, Judah, Zebulah, Issacar, Dan, Gad, Asher, Naphital, Joseph and Benjamin
Eskimo Art
Canada
Mom
This Eskimo is very important to my family. My family is Canadian and they collect Eskimo Art. My family bought this in Canada and it has been passed down to my mom. Eventually it will be passed down to me, or one of my siblings and it will keep on getting passed down.
This artifact doesn't have any Jewish meaning but my whole family is Jewish. It also came from Canada and lots of Jewish people live there. It shows that Canadian's take pride in their artwork and cultural heritage
Cat Figurine
Place of Origin Unknown
Donna L.
My mom got this cat statue from her Dad after he died. It is very special because my Grandfather died when my mom was only seven years old and it is one of the few things she has from her Dad to remind her of him. My grandfather got the statue from his mom (my great-grandmother) and she got it from her mom (my great, great-grandmother).
