Prayer Book
New York
Sharon C
My grandma, Sue R, was given a prayer book for her Bat Mitzvah on April 17, 1959. Then my grandma passed down the prayer book to her child, my mother, who received it on May 9, 1981 for her Bat Mitzvah. When I become Bat Mitzvah I will then inherit the prayer book for myself, and then pass it down through each generation.
This prayer book is used in a Jewish person's daily life. It contains many prayers which we use to pray to God. It is an artifact that my grandmother and mother used to pray, and soon I will do the same.
Ruth's Door
Napa, California
Dad
Ruth's Door is significant to my family because it is a small part of the door of my great-grandmother's store. The store sold women's clothing. It was open for 52 years, located in Napa, California. At one point there were three Roberta's stores, one in Napa, and two in Vallejo. My great grandmother named the store Roberta's because that was the name of one of her favorite movies from 1935. It is very important to my family.
Roberta's store relates to my Jewish Heritage because Judaism is about family, and the store was the focal point for three generations of the family. Whenever somebody had a problem, they would come to the store, and my great grandmother would help fix it. This store was the problem solving location for all of my family.
Love Letters
Pennsylvania
My grandmother
My great-grandpa wrote some love letters to my great-grandma Opal. These letters included some pictures and a lot of writing. My great-grandma was a nurse and my great-grandpa was an intern which meant they couldn't be together. These letters show that no matter how far you are away from someone that you love, you can never tear the love apart. This shows that their love was extremely strong.
My great-grandpa was Jewish and my great-grandma was not. This meant that even though they were from different religions they still loved each other.
