Bulova Pocket Watch
New York
Grandpa Al
This watch was passed down from my Great Grandpa, Alexander. He was born in Poland and received the watch shortly after coming to America. This pocket watch was given to my Great-Grandpa from his father when he had his bar-mitzvah in 1925. This watch means a lot to me and my family.
I never met the Great-Grandpa who I was named for, so this is a very special artifact to me. My Great Grandma, Baba Jean gave this watch to my mom, Cyndi to hold for me until I had my bar-mitzvah. I was her first great-grandchild.
She gave it to my mom in a box with a note for me. The note says:
Dearest Great-Grandson, Jake Alexander.
This watch was given to your name after Grandpa Alexander when he was a bar mitzvah. Now it is yours. It will bring you lots of luck.
Love you very much,
Baba Jean
Pearl Ring
New York
Stacey K
My great-grandmother Ruth Rothstein always wore rings to cocktail parties. This pearl ring was her favorite and she wore it most often.
This ring has been passed down through my family in an unbroken chain from great-grandmother Ruth to her daughter my grandmother, Harriet Rothstein, to my mother, Stacey who treasures the ring.
Pocket Watch
Origin Unknown
This pocket watch belonged to my paternal grandfather Julius Harris Woociker. He was a leader against the unions in the early 1930s. He suffered a heart attack and was given shock treatment, which killed him, because the hospital didn't properly check for his pre-existing heart condition.
The pocket watch is significant in our family because my grandpa is a guardian angel to my mother, me and my siblings.
