Ten Commandments
Sephardic-Middle East
My Mom
The story of my artifact is very special. My artifact is a decorative brass plaque that looks like an ark with doors that open to reveal the Ten Commandments. There are lions on the doors, and the symbols of the twelve tribes of Israel above it. On the bottom, it says Jerusalem in English and Hebrew. This artifact belonged to my grandparents who were living in Florida. When my grandmother passed away, my grandfather gave it to my mother, because she had always admired it. My mother was not born Jewish. She converted to Judaism, and this piece had a special meaning for her.
The Ten Commandments are very important to Judaism, and to many religions around the world. They are the basis for all laws. They tell us what is right and wrong.
Toy Soldiers
Russia
These artifacts were bought by my grandfather and given to my father to play with. He carried them from Russia to Israel and they are important because they carried a lot of memories throughout the years.
My Grandpa would go to Moscow a lot and each time, he would bring back metal toy soldiers for my uncle and my father. He carried them through the Six Day War to Israel.
