My Saba and Savta were visiting Israel when I was born. They heard the wonderful news and bought this Kiddush cup in their favourite city in the world - Jerusalem. They brought back the Kiddush cup just in time for my bris. This artifact is significant to my family because it reminds us of Jerusalem, a very important place.
It has all my dad's family history in it so it is very important.
The coin features the story of Joseph and his brothers. Joseph was the favorite son of his father Jacob. This and his dreams aroused the jealousy and hatred of his brothers. My parents bought the coin in late 2000, once they knew they were having a son, and had decided that Joseph would be my first name. Joseph was my mother's favourite grandparent, because she remembers him as a kid, an honorable, gentle man. He died in 1973, when my mom was eight.
I am named in part after my great grandfather Joseph L. He was named after his great grandfather Joseph. Our family assumes this pattern has continued hundreds of years back.
This Kiddush Cup was given to my parents on the occasion of their wedding. It was made by a medal of honour recipient from the Israeli army. His name is Edmond P. and he lost his right arm in the 1967 war.
Alyssa bought "Zeb" at an African market to remind her of her wonderful trip to Johannesburg, South Africa in Dec. 06, to visit Dad's mother and father, extended family and friends. During their trip the family spent time at a game park with family where they saw many animals including a zebra. Alyssa brought "Zeb" at an African market to remind her of her woderful trip to South Africa.
My artifact was given by my grandparents to my parents when they got engaged, as it was almost Chanukkah.
