This cup is over 100 years old it was from my great-great grandfather, then passed down to my great grandfather Eliah and then to my grandfather Yosef whom passed it down to us. This cup shows us a bit of history of our family in Cochin. It shows that we were wealthy enough to afford a glass kiddush cup because glass was expensive back then. We were able to afford it because in Cochin we owned a large piece of land with fruit trees and lots of vegetables which were profitable.
This cup is very important to me because it is one of the only things that we have from our Indian heritage from my dad's side and it was used and held by my great grandfather Eliah every Friday night for kiddush.
The kiddush cup is an important tradition in Jewish history. We use it every Friday to rejoice in the freedom given by Hashem. It is important to know that Jews all over the world celebrate Shabbat and believe in Hashem.
This item is significant to Jewish history because when a mother or a daughter over bat mitzvah age lights the candles on Friday night it welcomes Shabbat. When you light the candles it shows that it greets Shabbat or a special holiday into every single Jewish home.
