Hyman R. was dating Toby G. but Toby's older sister, Gertrude, wasn't married yet, so according to tradition, Hyman asked Gertrude to marry him. They were married in Poland and then moved to Leeds, England and had four children. They moved to the U.S.A. with their children and the oldest child, Jane, married Max M. and they had four children; the oldest child is Lorraine K., my grandmother. After Gertrude died, Jane and her brother both wanted her wedding band, as a memory of their mother, so they agreed to cut it in half and make two rings. Before Jane died she gave the ring to Lorraine and now I am borrowing it.
The ring is significant because my great-great grandmother received it for her wedding. When my Mom and Dad were married, my grandma lent it to my mom to wear as "something old" on her wedding day.
