My grandpa, Edward A's parents did not want him to have a bad education. They wanted him to go to Yeshiva (a school where the students learned Hebrew in the morning and English in the afternoon). When my Grandpa turned 8, he received this prayer book which he used every day until his bar mitzvah. He still has it today and has fond memories of it.
This Haggadah was given to my dad for his Bar Mitzvah in October of 1972. It was a gift from his cousin, Reubie. Reubie was orthodox and every Pesach my dad and his family would go to his house for the first night. My dad always got to recite the four questions because he was always the youngest child there. He never managed to stay awake after the second cup of wine.
The gift of the Haggadah was to remind my dad of the seders at Cousin Reubie's house when he began having seders in his own house. Our guests are always awed by the silver and turquoise cover and the beautiful pictures on the inside. I am looking forward to having this Haggadah at seders in my own house.
