Camp Yavneh Songster 8 x 11-1/2 inch(es) , Paper New Hampshire, United States of America, 1959 Gift of Bonnie Gurewitsch

Emanuel Goldsmith, the music counselor at Camp Yavneh in 1959, compiled this book of Hebrew and Yiddish songs.  The book includes early Zionist songs and popular Israeli and Yiddish folk songs.

Attending Jewish summer camps is one way that Jews in the United States maintain a Jewish identity.  The presence of Zionist music in the songster indicates a desire by Jews in this summer camp to support Israel.
